Sophomore cross country standout Brianna Torres is this year's inaugural VC Pirate Student Athlete of the Week. The 2023 All-Western State Conference honoree picked up where she left off last season, claiming the runner-up finish in the season-opening VC Invitational at Arroyo Verde Park. Torres, a graduate of Oxnard High School, covered the difficult 5k course in 20:45, firmly in second place by a 14-second margin over third place. Although last Friday's race ran a new course, Torres' mark is the second-fastest time in school history at the VC Invitational at Arroyo Verde.
