
The VC women's water polo team had an easy time with Crafton Hills Wednesday, defeating the Roadrunners 19-6 in Yucaipa. AnnMarie Patterson led the way with six goals and Kelsee Espitia found the inside of the cage four times. Ava Carey recorded 10 saves in goal for the Pirates (4-1).
Patterson sandwiched a pair of scores around a goal by Ella Montano for a quick 3-0 Pirate lead. Espitia scored with 2:59 remaining in the first quarter to make it 4-0 before Crafton Hills got on the board with a apir of scores.
The Roadrunners pulled to within 4-5 in the first minute of the second period before Ventura reeled off five straight to hold a 9-3 margin at halftime.
Ventura netted four more goals in the third stanza for a 13-3 advantage, and scored early in the final quarter to hold a 14-4 advantage with 6:46 remaining in the game.
Montano contributed three goals, two assists, two steals and two drawn exclusions for Ventura and Mikela De Aguiar had a solid passing game with four assists. Espitia and Stevie Sturges each dropped three dimes while Izabel Magana had two goals and two helpers and Sarah Glassman scored twice.
The Pirates next travel to San Diego on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20 and 21, playing at two games each at San Diego Miramar and Southwestern, respectively.
