
The VC softball team opened the 2025 season with a strong 3-1 record at the David "Hawk" Wilder Memorial Tournament in Glendale Friday and Saturday. The Pirates defeated LA Valley, Modesto and Cerro Coso while dropping a 1-0 decision to San Diego Mesa. Bryanne Magana led the offense with eight hits and five runs batted in in the four games and Jennie Jacinto recorded five hits and seven RBI. Baylany Magana started all four games in the pitcher's circle for the Pirates.
Ventura 15, LA Valley 8
The Pirates yielded four runs in the bottom of the first inning before scoring three in the top of the second. VC tied the game in the third inning before exploding for 10 run in the top of the fourth inning to take control of the game.
Bry. Magana had a pair of hits and two RBI for Ventura in the contest and Jacinto had a hit, three RBI and scored three runs. Sophia Valencia homered for the Pirates and recorded three RBI.
Bry. Magana went the distance in the circle, giving up eight runs, six earned, scattering eight LAVC hits over five innings.
Ventura 0, San Diego Mesa 1
It was a pitchers' duel in the nightcap Friday as the Olympians scored in the top of the seventh inning to capture the win. Lily Jimenez had a pair of hits for VC and Erika Sanchez tripled. Bay. Magana faced just 24 batters in seven innings, giving up just two hits and a walk while striking out one, taking the hard-luck loss.
Ventura 7, Modesto 5
After plating a pair of runs in the op of the first inning, VC scored five times in the top of the seventh to pull out the victory. Sanchez knocked in a pair of runs and Alyssa Castaneda tripled and scored a run. Bay. Magana and Bry. Magana each recorded a pair of singles and the game. Bay. Magana, Savanna Higgins, Jacinto and Jimenez also had an RBI each.
Bay. Magana scattered 10 hits over six frames, striking out four and giving up five earned runs.
Ventura 19, Cerro Coso 4
The Pirates closed the weekend with a quick run-rule victory over the Coyotes. Bry. Magana led the onslaught with four hits, including a double, and three RBI and Jacinto totaled three hits with a triple and three RBI while scoring four times. Bay Magana had four hits in the game and Higgins scored four runs.
The Magana sisters shared time in the circle with Baylany starting a throwing an inning and Bryanne finishing the final four frames.
Ventura opens their home schedule next on Friday Jan. 31 at 1:00 pm against Pasadena.
