
The Ventura College softball team exploded for 20 runs and 21 hits Tuesday in their 20-1 pounding of Santa Monica. Baylany Magana was 5-5 at the plate, including a double, with five runs scored while Jennie Jacinto had four hits, including a pair of doubles, with five runs batted in and two runs scored. Madison Shay had a triple, two singles and a walk and scored twice with three RBI. Bryanne Magana recorded an out-of the-park home run in the rout.
VC got off to a quick start with a pair of runs in their first at-bat. Savanna Higgins hit an RBI double and Aubrey Aguirre hit an RBI single for the early lead.
The Pirates pulled off a double-steal in the second with Dakota Moore stealing second while Ba. Magana stole home on the play for a 3-0 margin.
Ventura broke out with six runs in the top of the third. Jacinto hit an RBI double and Sophia Valencia batted in a run with a single. Maeghan DeVera knocked in two scores with a single before Higgins and Shay doubled and tripled on back-to-back plate appearances to push the lead to 9-0.
Br. Magana hit a two-run home run in the fourth and Shay hit a single with the bases loaded to score two more runs. Jacinto knocked in two scores with a double and Valencia singled home one more to stretch the advantage to 16-1 through four innings.
VC scored four more runs in the top of the fifth to set the final score. DeVera scored on a wild pitch and Erika Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly to score another run. Jacinto came up and blasted another two-run double to finish off the offensive onslaught.
Lily Jimenez pitched three scoreless innings to pick up the win for the Pirates in the circle.
VC next hosts Los Angeles Valley on Friday Apr. 4 with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm at the VC Softball Complex.
