The VC women's tennis team dropped a close 5-4 decision at College of the Canyons Tuesday in Santa Clarita. Chandra Padua was the lone double-winner for the Pirates, partnering with Lola Tennison to win in No. 2 doubles and also prevailing in No. 4 singles. Nicole Iannacone won in No. 1 singles with a first-set tiebreaker while Kira Branson won in No. 3 singles with a super tiebreaker.
Tennison and Padua won the Pirates' lone point in doubles play, winning their No. 2 match 8-4. Iannacone and Branson dropped a close 8-6 outcome in the No. 1 doubles slot.
Padua tied the match at 2-2 with a love, love win at No. 4 singles.
Canyons took a commanding 4-2 lead with wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively, with Fernanda Gonzales dropping the first set in a tiebreaker at No. 5.
The Cougars clinched the win when Tennison dropped her No. 2 singles contest, 6-2, 6-4, but VC still fought back with Branson's super-tiebreaker win at no. 3, 5-7, 6-0 (10-4) and Iannacone's sweep at No. 1 with a tiebreaker win in the first set, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
Ventura next hosts Santa Barbara on Thursday Feb. 13 at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center, weather permitting.
