
In a game rescheduled from Thursday, the Pirate baseball team dropped a 5-2 decision at El Camino in Torrance Friday afternoon. Designated hitter Peter Dufau had a pair of hits, including a double, and a run batted in and Grant Rodriguez had two hits, a walk and an RBI. Ben Drumheller gave up five earned runs in five innings of work while Zack Serup and Cole Blommer combined for three frames of scoreless pitching.
Ventura got off to a slow start, giving up three runs to the Warriors in the bottom of the first inning.
The Pirates then got back into the game with two runs in the top of the third. With one out, Cole Howard doubles to left, moving to third on a groundout by Henry Borjas. Caden Stillwell walked before Rodriguez hit an RBI single to right, moving Stillwell from first to third. Dufau then hit an RBI double to left to pull VC to within 3-2.
Unfortunately, El Camino answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and held the 5-2 advantage for the rest of the game.
VC returns to Torrance on Saturday Feb. 15 for another contest against the Warriors at 12:00 pm. The Pirates will then host LA Pierce on Tuesday Feb. 18 at 2:00 pm.
