VC sophomore Ashley Crist competed in the Southern California Heptathlon Tuesday and Wednesday at Cerritos College. She did well through the first four events Tuesday before a lower leg injury forced her withdraw from the competition before the final event Wednesday.
Crist (Foothill Tech) had a strong performance on the first day. After a couple of missteps in the 110 hurdles she posted a lifetime best in the high jump, clearing 4'7" to finish in the middle of the pack. She threw the shot 25'5.25" for another solid finish before running a personal record of the 200m, breaking the tape in 27.47.
On Wednesday, some lower leg pain hampered her long jump, bust she still posted a mark of 14'4.5" to come in fifth of the 11 competitors. She threw the javelin 67'11" to come in fifth, but was forced to withdraw before the 800m run. Crist accumulated 2,564 points through six events.
Crist and her Pirate teammates next will compete at the Mt. San Antonio Relays on Saturday April 12 before hosting the Western State Conference preliminaries on Friday April 18.
