
The VC women's soccer team closed the 2024 regular season Friday with a 7-1 victory at Oxnard College. Valeria Lopez and Savannah Sprinkle each scored two goals in the rout while Lex Sahagian, Yaraby Herrera and Jennifer Galindo also found the back of the net for Ventura (15-3-4, 9-2-1).
Sahagian got the Pirates on the board early when she scored off an assist by Melanie Torres in the 14th minute.
Oxnard managed an equalizer in the 21st, but VC came right back two minutes later when V. Lopez converted M. Tores' second assist of the night for a 2-1 lead. The score remained 2-1 throughout the rest of the first half.
Ventura broke out in the second half, beginning with Herrera's goal from Yahaira Ramirez's assist in the 57th minute.
Five minutes later V. Lopez netted her second score with help from Monse Hernandez for the 4-1 score.
Galindo found the back of the net in the 82nd minute with an assist by Sprinkle, who then scored in the 87th and 89th minutes, with assists from Galindo and Y. Ramirez, respectively.
The Pirates dominated play with 24 shots in the game, 17 on goal. Meanwhile, the Condors were limited to three shots, one on target.
VC finished the regular season alone in second place in the Western State Conference North Division. They await their playoff position with the post-season beginning Wednesday Nov. 20.
