The VC women's soccer team experienced an offensive explosion Tuesday at Cuesta, defeating the Cougars 9-0. Eight different players scored with Janessah Gonzales netting a pair of goals in the second half. Samantha Quinonez handed out a pair of assists for Ventura (8-1-3, 2-0) while Emily Ramirez took a pair of corner kicks that resulted in Pirate scores. The offensive output was the highest since VC defeated Hancock 9-1 in 2018.
Ventura got out of the gate quickly as Melanie Torres converted a pass from Jazzy Moreno for the first score of the day in the 4th minute. The Pirates found the inside of the net again 10 minutes later when Valeria Lopez scored from an assist by Quinonez.
Moreno made it 3-0 three minutes later with an unassisted score and Monse Hernandez netted a goal in the 41st minute. Jillian Smith completed the first half scoring for VC with a goal in the 44th minute of play.
The Pirates continued the onslaught 15 minutes into the second half when Daisy Vaca scored off a beautiful corner kick by Ramirez. Three minutes later, another Ramirez corner led to a goal by Alyssa Gonzalez to make it 7-0.
Gonzales got on the board in the 86th minute with an unassisted goal, and she scored again in the 90th minute with help from Quinonez.
Ventura totaled 31 shots on the day with 24 on goal. Cuesta, meanwhile, was limited to four shots with three being on target.
The victory was the seventh in a row for the streaking Pirates, who have a nine-match unbeaten streak going. THe nine goal differential on Wednesday was VC's largest since a 9-0 win at Allan Hancock in 2016.
VC next hosts Allan Hancock on Friday Oct. 11 at 5:30 pm. It will be AYSO night and all youth soccer players in uniform will be admitted free to the game.
