
VC pitcher Bryanne Magana faced the minimum of 15 batters over five innings of work, giving way to relief pitcher Erika Sanchez as the Pirates' softball team blanked Oxnard 5-0 Tuesday. Aubrey Aguirre had two hits, including a double, wit three runs batted in and Baylany Magana was 3-4 with two runs scored in the victory.
The Pirates got off to a quick start with two runs in the top of the first. Ba. Magana singled to lead off the game and stole second before Dakota Moore drew a walk. Madison Shay singled to load the bases before Aguirre hit a two-RBI single for the early edge.
While Ba. Magana wa mowing down 15 Condors in order over the first five innings, the Pirate offense continued a slow, but steady climb up the scoreboard.
Aguirre singled home Ba. Magana again in the top of the third inning and Savanna Higgins tripled in the fourth, scoring on Sophia Valencia's base hit. Jennie Jacinto hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth to set the final 5-0 margin.
Ventura (18-7, 6-1) continues Western State Conference play on Thursday Mar. 27, hosting Allan Hancock at 2:30 pm at the VC Softball Complex.
