
The Pirates' volleyball team swept past Los Angeles Pierce College 25-12, 25-21, 25-22 Wednesday evening in Woodland Hills. Talia Behrens led the effort with seven kills with a .636 hitting percentage and Makena Schaumloeffel had three kills, five aces and six digs. Daphne Raymond totaled five winners at the net while Liz Schalde and Natalie Bair handed out 11 and 10 assists, respectively.
The Pirates (10-7, 4-2) were dominant in the opening set with 10 kills and six aces with no hitting errors in defeating the Brahmas 25-12.
Ventura then won the second set 25-21 before clinching the victory with a 25-22 triumph in the third set.
Skylar Rutherford and Bair each recorded a team-best seven digs while Sadie Lishman had six. Taylor Lane, Viola Barrios and Callie Cahill contributed to the balanced effort with three kills each.
Ventura will begin the second round through the Western State Conference North Division on Friday Oct. 25 hosting Cuesta at 6:00 pm.
