
The Pirates' women's soccer team picked up a big 2-1 road victory Wednesday in Woodland hills over Los Angeles Pierce. Melanie Torres and Lex Sahagian each scored goals for VC (10-1-3, 4-0) as they won their ninth consecutive game.
Ventura got on the board early when Sahagian assisted Torres' goal in the third minute of play, a power shot pas the goal keeper to the right corner of the net.
The remainder of the first half was scoreless as both teams battled in physical play on the pitch.
The Pirates received their second goal from Sahagian, a 30-yard rocket, from an assist by Jessica Aguilar.
The Brahmas pulled back to with one goal with a score in the 71st minute of play, ending a 517 minute scoreless streak by the Ventura defense going back five games.
Despite the Pierce goal, the Pirate defense played well again, with defender Samantha Quinonez leading the strong effort to hold off the Brahmas. Janessah Gonzales went the distance in goal for VC.
Ventura totaled 10 shots on the day, five on goal, while Pierce recorded four shots and one on target.
VC will next host Santa Barbara on Thursday Oct. 17 at 7:00 pm in a first-place showdown with the Vaqueros.
