
The VC men's tennis team blasted Santa Barbara Tuesday 8-1. Yusen Sato and Haru Nakayama were each double winners on the day, together in No. 1 doubles, and individually in Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, along with Yanis Guerrout, in No. 2 doubles with Rafael Matias and No. 3 singles.
Sato and Nakayama earned the first point for VC with their 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Matias and Guerrout followed soon thereafter in No. 2 doubles, 8-2 before Max Beaudry and Manolo Vanbesien won in No. 3 doubles, 8-6.
Ariitea Cotti-Helme continued the rout with a love and one win at No. 5 singles and Guerrout clinched the Pirate victory with a win in the No. 3 singles slot, 6-2, 6-1. Sato won in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2, Nakayama prevailed in the No. 4 slot, 6-0, 6-2, and Leo Pham won in No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-3. Matias battled in No. 1 singles, ultimately falling in a super tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-2, 13-11.
VC next travels to Glendale on Friday Feb. 28.
