
The VC men's and women's swimming and diving teams each finished second Friday at the Western State Conference No. 3 meet at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria. Jaiden Monroe led the men with a pair of gold medals and a silver while Olivia Badaracco claimed three individual third-place finishes.
Monroe posted the fastest time in the 200-yard backstroke, touching in 1:56.78. He earned his silver medal in the 50-yard freestyle before posting a mark of 51.93, the fastest time in the 100-yard butterfly leg of the 400-yard medley relay. Monroe was joined by Luigi Travi, Michael Soho and Nick Santander in winning the relay in 3:50.37.
Michael Ramirez won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:09.95 and also came in third in the 200-yard backstroke. Travi, meanwhile, touched in 56.68 in the 100-yard backstroke to claim gold and was second in the 200-yard IM. Shane Speth was second in the 400-yard IM.
Ventura's 800-yard freestyle relay also came in first in 3:28.14 along with the 800-yard freestyle relay in 8:01.28.
Badaracco claimed three individual bronze medals on the day in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Ava Carey was third in the 100-yard butterfly and Stevie Sturges was third in the 100-yard breast stroke.
The Pirate women's 800-yard freestyle relay team came in second while the 400-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay teams both came in third.
The Pirates next travel to the Pasadena Invitational on Thursday-Saturday, April 3-5.
