
The VC men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Dave Shannon Invitational Saturday at El Camino College in Torrance. Avalyn Everett had the best finish of the day in the meet that involved at least a dozen community college teams along with several club and unattached athletes, coming in second in the women's high jump. Ashley Crist claimed bronze in the triple jump for the women while Jacson Cutting claimed a pair of third-place finishes to lead the men.
Everett (Summitt School) cleared 4'7" to win silver in the high jump as the top CC performer. Crist (Foothill Tech), who will compete in the Southern California Heptathlon this upcoming week, claimed bronze in the triple jump for the VC women.
Brianna Torres (Oxnard) came in fourth in the 1500m and 10th in the 800m while Leshelle Lee (Channel Islands) was fifth in the high jump and 12th in the long jump. Yesenia (Molina) Wynne (Oxnard) placed 12th in the 1500m run and 14th in the 800m and Elizabeth Mejia (Oxnard) ran fifth in the 400m hurdles and seventh in the 100m hurdles. Guadalupe Jimenez (Channel Islands) earned seven place marks in the shot put and discus and Kelsey Crist (Foothill Tech) was ninth in the 100m.
Cutting (Camarillo) led the Pirate men with two of bronze medals in the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles and Cole Everett (Nordhoff) medalled in the high jump, finishing third. Dante Mata-Burney (Santa Paula) placed in three events, coming in fifth in the long jump, eighth in the high jump and 10th in the triple jump. Liam Genkel (Ventura) earned points in a pair of events with his fourth-place mark in the triple jump and coming in ninth in the high jump while Zac Crist (Foothill Tech) also placed in two events, seventh in the long jump and ninth in the triple jump. Jason Vasquez (Pacifica) threw 11th in the shot put and 12th in the discus and Brian Zamarripa (Ventura) was 13th and 15th in the shot and discus, respectively.
Trevor McCarthy (St. Bonaventure) crossed the finish line seventh in the 100m and Carlos Oregel (Oxnard) was sixth in the 3000m steeplechase. Jerry Ayala (Rio Mesa) was 11th in the discus, Shaun Tolson (Oxnard) was 13th in the 200m and Nathaniel Lopez (Ventura) was 14th in the 1500m.
A. Crist will compete in the SoCal Heptathlon on Tuesday and Wednesday April 1 and 2 at Cerritos College before the men and women return to action on Saturday April 12 at the Mt. San Antonio Relays.
