A week ago, the Pirates' women's soccer team scored a goal on the final play of the game to pull out a draw against San Francisco. On Wednesday, Evergreen Valley returned the favor, scoring on a penalty kick in stoppage time on what became the final play of the game to secure a 2-2 tie with visiting Ventura in San Jose. Lex Sahagian scored early and Yaraby Herrera had a second half goal before the Hawks came back for the draw with two goals in the final 10 minutes.
Sahagian gave the Pirates (1-1-2) an early edge with a goal in the 15th minute of play. Sibella Donnelly had a solid first half in goal as VC led Evergreen Valley 1-0 at intermission.
Herrera put the Pirates ahead 2-0 in the 65th minute of play, converting an assist from Jazzy Moreno for a solid advantage.
The Hawks came fighting back, however, scoring off a free kick in the 83rd minute before converting a penalty kick in stoppage time on the final play of the match.
Ventura outplayed Evergreen Valley offensively with 12 total shots with six on goal while the Hawks had five shots, two on target.
Kaelyn Federis and Daisy Vaca also turned in solid performances for the orange and black.
Ventura will continue their stay in the Bay Area with a game at West Valley College in Saratoga on Friday Sept. 6 at 2:00 pm.
