The VC women's basketball team returned home Thursday with a 94-27 rout of Los Angeles Harbor. Milan Garcia hit five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 22 points and Charnelle Nichols was 9-15 from the floor for 20 points. Alexa Coubal and Sam McKenzie totaled 16 and 12 points, respectively and Alanna Topete posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 assists.
Midway through the first quarter the Seahawks scored a field goal to pull to within 6-4 before the Pirates took control with a 13-3 run. McKenzie assisted a score by Coubal before hitting a three to begin the streak on consecutive possessions. Garcia made one of two free throws and Nichols followed by draining a three. Garcia and Nichols then hit back-to-back lay-ups for a 19-7 Pirate lead in the final minute of the first quarter.
Ventura (3-6) gave up just one point in the second period while scoring 20 to break the game open. The Pirates forced 14 Seahawk turnovers in the stanza while Coubal and Danielle Salazar scored six and five points, respectively, to lead VC to a 39-10 halftime margin. The Pirates continued their domination in the second half, outscoring Harbor 25-7 in the third and 30-10 in the fourth to post the big victory.
Coubal led the Windex crew on the glass with eight rebounds while McKenzie grabbed seven. Nichols and Aiyana Gonzalez each pulled in six boards. McKenzie dropped five dimes in the game and Garcia totaled five steals. Ariella Harrison added five points and three assists.
VC plays a back-to-back as they next host Foothill on Friday Dec. 20. Tip-off against the Owls is 6:00 pm.
