
The VC volleyball team started out well, but could not sustain the momentum at Moorpark, falling in four sets to the Raiders, 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19. Shai Daniels led the way for Ventura (11-8, 5-3) with a double-double of 12 kills and 14 digs while Josephine Rausch and Callie Cahill each totaled eight kills. Bryce Swain led the defense with 18 digs and Makena Schaumloeffel had four services aces for the Pirates.
Ventura was hitting well early, taking the opening set 25-20. The Raiders came back in the second, however, evening the match with a 25-18 set win.
Each team totaled 12 kills in the third set, and the Pirates doubled up MC in aces, 2-1, but eight hitting errors handed the set to the Raiders, 25-21. Moorpark then took charge in the clincher with a 25-19 win.
Daphne Raymond and Talia Behrens each recorded six steals with identical .455 hitting percentages. Liz Schalde handed out 20 assists and Natalie Bair dropped 15 dimes.
VC next travels to Los Angeles Mission for a match on Friday Nov. 1 at 6:00 pm.
