Playing in their final regular season appearance at home, the Pirates' women's soccer team posted a 2-1 result over Los Angeles Pierce Wednesday at the Sportsplex. Jessica Aguilar and Jazzy Moreno each recorded goals for the Pirates (14-3-4, 8-2-1). Melanie Torres assisted both goals and was named Player of the Game.
LA Pierce went on the offensive early and created many scoring opportunities. The Pirate defense led by goalie Sibella Donnelly held fast, however, keeping the Brahmas out of the net.
Ventura struck first when Aguilar scored in the 17th minute off an assist by M.Torres. The score remained throughout the remainder of the first half.
Pierce leveled the score in the 56th minute off a deflection from a setpiece. The Pirates then received the game-winner in the 68th when Jazzy Moreno cashed in M. Torres' second assist of the night.
The game continued to be very physical and chippy with the Pirates receiving six yellow cards and the Brahmas picking up one.
On the night, the Pirates totaled 11 shots with four on goal while LAPC had four shots, two on target.
Ventura will close the 2024 regular season on Friday Nov. 15 at Oxnard College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
