
For the second straight week a Pirate golfer was the medalist at a Western State Conference event. Daniel Darwin shot a 4-under 68 on Monday to claim the top spot on the leaderboard at the WSC No. 3 at Alisal Ranch Country Club in Solvang in the event hosted by Santa Barbara. Matthew Fisher carded a 1-under 71 to tie for second and Ventura posted an overall score of 374, two shots off the lead set by Canyons in the team competition.
Logan Gonzalez had a 4-over 76 to tie for ninth individually and last week's winner, Nick Bublitz, shot a 6-over 78 to tie for 15th. Brandon Flores and Stephen Ong rounded out the VC competitors with scores of 81 and 90, respectively.
Canyons won the event with a team score of 372 with the Pirates close on their heels. Santa Barbara was a distant third at 388 and Citrus finished fourth at 392.
Ventura will take a break from conference play on Monday Feb. 24, traveling to the Riverside Invitational at Victoria Country Club.
