
The Ventura College softball team used a six-run third inning to propel them to an 11-0 shutout victory over visiting Los Angeles Valley Friday afternoon. Madison Shay knocked in three runs while Sophia Valencia and Baylany Magana each recorded two hits on the day. Aubrey Aguirre drew a pair of walks on the day as VC accumulated eight bases on balls in the game. Ba. Magana also started in the circle, giving up one hit through four innings of work to pick up the win.
Ventura (21-7, 8-1) scored one run early when Savanna Higgins hit a sacrifice fly for the 1-0 lead after one inning of play.
The Pirates added four runs in the second. Alyssa Castaneda singled in a pair of runs before Jennie Jacinto grounded out while knocking in another score. Shay also hit a ground ball out that scored a run and Ventura led 5-0.
VC put the finishing touches on the rout with a six-run third inning. Jacinto singled to score a run in the frame and Higgins hit an RBI-double. Shay pushed home a pair of runs with a single, as did Valencia.
Ba. Magana struck out three Monarchs in her four innings of work without giving up a walk. Lily Jimenez came in to pitch the fifth in relief.
Ventura next will travel to Santa Barbara on Monday April 7, hoping to avenge their only conference loss of the season.
