The VC women's tennis team blanked Glendale 9-0 Tuesday afternoon in their Western State Conference opener at the VC Tennis Center. Lola Tennison and Nicole Iannacone completed the sweep with wins at Nos. 2 and 1 singles, respectively. Iannacone also win in No. 1 doubles with Kira Branson and Tennison joined Chandra Padua to claim the No. 2 doubles match. Branson and Padua also won their singles matches along with Sherry Bonilla.
Ventura took the quick 3-0 lead in doubles play. Iannacone and Branson won in No. 1 doubles 8-1 and Tennison and Padua claimed the No. 2 doubles match, 8-0. VC won No. 3 doubles by default.
In singles, the Pirates claimed the No. 6 slot by default and Sherry Bonilla clinched the victory with her love and love win at No. 5. Branson won her No. 3 singles match 6-1, 6-1 while Padua blanked her opponent in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Tennison claimed a 6-1, 4-6, 10-1 triumph in No. 2 singles and Iannacone completed the sweep winning at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 7-5.
The Pirates (1-1, 1-0) are scheduled to travel to Bakersfield on Thursday Feb. 6 before hosting Fullerton on Friday Feb. 7.
