
The VC women's tennis team swept past Antelope Valley 9-0 Thursday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. Chandra Padua teamed up with Lola Tennison to blank their opponents in doubles play as did Nicole Iannacone and Kira Branson. Dulce Contreras and Fernanda Gonzales also won in doubles before all six players swept through singles play without dropping a set.
Tennison and Padua were the first to win in doubles play, posting an 8-0 score on Court 2. Iannacone and Branson also shut out their opponents in No. 1 doubles before Contreras and Gonzales won the No. 3 match, 8-4.
Iannacone made quick work of her No. 1 singles contest, winning love and one before Branson was winning 6-1, 5-0 before her opponent retired due to injury. Padua won in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-0 and Tennison prevailed on Court 2, 6-2, 6-3. Gonzales won her No. 6 singles contest, 6-4, 6-2 and Contreras completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph in No. 5 singles.
The Pirates (7-6, 7-4) next host Fullerton for a non-conference match on Saturday Mar. 22 beginning at 11:00 am.
