The VC baseball team outlasted Compton Thursday at Pirate Park, claiming a 13-11 victory over the Tartars. Daniel Aguilera and Henry Borjas each had a pair of hits and two runs batted in while Jacob Tostado also knocked in a pair of runs. Austin Kurr pitched the final four innings to pick up the win on the mound for Ventura (1-1).
The Pirates took an initial advantage wit three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Compton answered with a run in the third and two more scores in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.
Ventura then seemingly took control with five runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning. However, Compton came back with three runs in the top of the fifth before VC answered with three in the bottom half of the frame.
VC gave up five runs in the top of the sixth as Compton tied the game 11-11 before the Pirates plated the eventual game winner in the bottom of the sixth. VC added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin.
The Pirates totaled nine hits in the game, including triples by Peter Dufau and Frederico Tiburtini, and doubles from Tiburtini and Matthew Ramirez.
Jacob Roa started the game on hill for Ventura, throwing five complete innings and giving up six runs while striking out one. Kurr threw four innings for the win, allowing two hits and two runs and fanning three.
The Pirates will next host Irvine Valley on Friday Jan. 31 at 2:00 pm at Pirate Park.
