The VC softball team won another pitchers' duel Tuesday with a 2-1 victory at Citrus College. Baylany Magana pitched a gem, allowing one hit and one run while striking out 10 Owl batters. Savanna Higgins led the offense batting 2-2 with a double, a walk and a run scored and Bryanne Magana had an RBI double. Dakota Moore also had a pair of singles and Jennie Jacinto scored a run.
Citrus took advantage of a lead-off walk in the first inning, scoring a run on an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. Br. Magana settled in after that, not allowing a hit or a run for the remainder of the game.
The Pirates made some offensive noise in the top of the fourth inning. Jacinto reached first on an error and Madison Shay's groundout moved Jacinto to second. Jacinto then stole third and scored on a passed ball that sent Higgins to first on a walk. After a fly-ball out, Ba.Magan smacked an RBI double bringing Higgins home from first base for the 2-1 Ventura lead.
That was all that Br. Magana needed in the circle as she dominated the Citrus batters, recording 12 outs in 13 batters faced, including six K's, over the Owls final four at-bats.
Ventura next travels to Antelope Valley on Thursday Feb. 20.
