
In a clean sweep, the Pirtes' men's tennis team defeated Bakersfield 9-0 Thursday at the VC Tennis Center. Jules Marquez Fichet made his VC debut with a love and love victory in No. 5 singles while Max Beaudry also recorded a shutout win in the No. 4 singles slot. Rafael Matias, Manolo Vanbesien and Beaudry all won two matches on the day.
Beaudry and Vanbesien started the match with an 8-2 win in No. 2 doubles. Matias and Yanis Guerrout soon followed with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. VC won the point at no. 3 doubles by default for a commanding 3-0 lead heading to singles play.
Beaudry won his second point of the day and clinched the Pirate win with his love and love win at no. 4 singles. Vanbesien secured a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 3 singles before Marquez Fichet claimed the No. 5 singles slot, 6-0, 6-0. Yusen Sato prevailed in No. 2 singles, 7-6 (2), 6-2 and Matias closed the day with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 (7) triumph at No. 1.
The Pirates next will host Mt. San Antonio on Friday Feb. 21 at 2:00 pm.
