In accordance with a directive from the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), Ventura College has indefinitely postponed all spring sports, including nontradtional seasons, due to concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak. The move was voted upon by the CCCAA Board of Directors on Thursday afternoon.
"It's important that we look out for the well-being of our student-athletes," said Keith Curry, Chair of the Board of Directors.
Jennifer Cardone, CCCAA Interim Executive Director, said the Board of Directors understands the effects this will have on student-athletes and said the CCCAA will be working to minimize those impacts to student-athlete eligibility for the CCCAA as well as the four-year college level.
"We regret the effect this has on our outstanding student-athletes and the hard work and dedication they've invested in their seasons," She said. "However, we feel it's in the best interest of our student-athletes to take this action."
Additionally, the CCCAA has cancelled its annual spring convention, scheduled for March 31-April 3 in Ontario.
The CCCAA and its Board will be working with the NCAA and NAIA to navigate eligibility issues for student athletes moving forward.
The organization has established a Frequently Asked Questions webpage to address common inquiries concerning the postponement.
