
Ventura College defender Leslie Torres was named the Western State Conference North Division Defensive Player of the Year in voting by the conference coaches last month. She was joined by Valeria Lopez, Jazzy Moreno, Lex Sahagian and Daisy Vaca as first team All-WSC honorees for the 2024 season.
Torres, a first year player from Pacifica High School in Oxnard was named the conference's top defender. In addition to anchoring the Pirates' back line as it yielded 0.88 goals per game in 2024, she also netted a pair of goals and had two assists for six points on offense.
Vaca, a sophomore from Santa Paula High School, was named first team as a defender after earning an honorable mention nod as a freshman. She added four goals and four assists for VC this past season.
Moreno, a Ventura High School product, scored netted five goals with 11 assists from her midfield position during her first year in the orange and black to earn her first-team honor.
Sahagian, meanwhile, was VC's top goal scorer for the 2024 season. The freshman from Westlake High School scored 13 goals with five assists, totaling 31 points on the year.
Sophomores Desire Lopez and Jessica Aguilar, and freshman Melanie Torres were named second team All-WSC North.
Sophomore Sibella Donnelly and freshman Yaraby Herrera earned honorable mention All-WSC distinction.
The Pirates were 16-4-4 in 2024 and 9-2-1 in conference play. VC finished alone in second place in the conference table and advanced to the 3C2A State Sweet 16 in the playoffs.
