It had been over a month since the Ventura College women's soccer team had played on the friendly pitch of the VC Sportsplex. They returned home Tuesday night, earning a 1-1 draw with Pierce College to extend their Western State Conference unbeaten streak to 12 contests dating back one year.
Miranda Campos scored the equalizer on a header in the 43rd minute off of a throw in by Delanie Gavid. Pierce struck early in the 15th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Ventura (6-2-3, 2-0-2) got the offense rolling in the 35th minute when Sabrina Lopez had a strong shot sail wide. Lopez keyed a counter attack in the 40th resulting in a spin shot by Karen Medina which also went wide.
Campos launched a rocket from 25 yards out in the 42nd minute, that was punched over the crossbar by the Brahma goalie. Then Campos headed in the equalizer shortly thereafter on a throw in.
Both teams had key chanced to break the tie in the final 45 minutes, and many were turned away by the keepers. Pirate gaolie Katelyn White had several key saves in the second half to preserve the result.
The Pirates and Brahmas remained tied in the WSC North Division with eight points in four matches, each team with a record of 2-0-2. Santa Barbara City College leads the conference with 11 points in five matches with a record of 3-0-2.
The Vaqueros visit the Pirates at the VC Sportsplex in a key match on Friday Oct. 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
