For the third time in six matches the Pirate soccer team could not sustain a strong first half performance, falling 4-0 to Santa Rosa at Las Positas College in Livermore Friday evening. The Pirates trailed 1-0 at halftime on an 8th minute goal by the Bear Cubs, containing the margin w with a strong first half but they could not sustain the effort in the final 45 minutes. Eleni Borjon had a solid game defensively for Ventura (2-3-1).
Sirena Romero had a pair of free kicks early but could not punch one into the net. Santa Rosa responded and connected for a score in the 8th minute for a 1-0 advantage. Goalie Eva Mcmillan had a great save in the 44th minute and the Pirates went into halftime trailing by a single goal.
VC could not sustain the effort in the second half, however, allowing goals in the 64th, 72nd and 79th minutes for the 4-0 result.
Ventura totaled seven shots in the match with three on goal. Mcmillan had a pair of saves in goal, and Maya Escobar came in to save four shots in relief.
The Pirates will next host Rio Hondo College on Friday Sept. 15. The match is slated to begin at 6:00 pm at the VC Sportsplex.
