The Ventura College soccer team posted a hard-fought 1-0 shutout win over Santa Monica at the Sportsplex on Friday evening. Aaliyah Lopez picked up with win in goal for the Pirates (5-2) with three saves. Center backs Ashley Tiscareno and Sofia Preciado also helped anchor the strong defensive effort against the Corsairs. Alix Tirado scored the game winning goal late in the second half.
The game was dominated by the defenses of both sides. SMC managed six shots overall with four on frame while Ventura managed seven shots, four on goal.
Tirado netted the game-winner in the 79th minute with an assist from Valerie Hernandez.

The Pirates next take the pitch on Tuesday Sept. 21 at Citrus College in Glendora. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
