For the third time this season, VC sophomore Jennifer Orozco netted a hat trick as the Pirate soccer team defeated Los Angeles Valley College 7-1 Monday in Van Nuys. Orozco scored three goals and Janelle Garcia had two scores with two assists as Ventura (12-4-1, 5-0-1) extended its unbeaten streak to nine matches in the non-conference contest.
The Pirates jumped on the Monarchs early as Orozco scored in the second minute of the game for VC. In the 11th minute, Maya Antunez hit Janelle Garcia, who slotted home VC's second goal. Orozco made quick work of things three minutes with another unassisted score on a long shot outside the box and VC led 3-0 less than 15 minutes into the match.
Janelle assisted Orozco's third goal of the day in the 23rd minute, and Jennifer Magana scored unassisted in the 28th. Sarah Garcia got into the act in the 32nd minute on Janelle's second assist of the half to make the score 6-0 before halftime.
LA Valley punched in a goal early in the second half, and Michelle Rios assisted Janelle's second goal of the day in the 53rd minute to set the final 7-1 margin.
Ventura had an aggressive game plan against the Monarchs with 33 shots, 24 on goal. LA Valley countered with two shots on goal in the match. Goal keeper Evanessa Vasquez had one save.
Ventura returns to Western State Conference North Division play on Tuesday Nov. 1 at Allan Hancock College. Kickoff in Santa Maria is slated for 2:00 pm.
