The Pirates' women's soccer team traveled to Whittier on Tuesday, coming up on the short end of a 3-0 decision at Rio Hondo College. The Roadrunners went ahead late in the first half with a header off a corner kick in the 45th minute, and they also scored in the 59th and 84th minutes to defeat VC. The Pirates put up a strong fight led by defender Ashley Tiscareno, but they could not get the offense going in the setback.
Rio Hondo dominated play with 22 shots, 13 on goal. Pirate goalkeeper Kambria Haughton had 10 saves protecting the net.
Ventura's offense struggled to create opportunities for a score, recording four shots in the game with one on goal.
VC (4-2-0) returns home on Friday Sept. 17 to face Santa Monica College. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 pm in the VC Sportsplex.
