The Pirates' women's soccer team dropped their regular season finale Friday 3-1 at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria. Yahaira Ramirez scored Ventura's lone goal in the 90th minute of the game to prevent the shutout against the Bulldogs.
Hancock, who clinched the Western State Conference North Division title with the win, scored twice in the opening 45 minutes for a 2-0 lead at intermission. They scored their third goal in the 88th minute to put the game on ice.
The Pirates maintained their effort, however, and Ramirez converted a penalty kick in the 90th minute to set the final margin.
Ventura (9-6-6, 4-4-4) was limited to six shots in the game, four on goal. Sibella Donnelly recorded a pair of saves in goal.
VC, looking for their 25th playoff appearance in 26 seasons, now awaits word on their post season fate in the coming week.
