The Ventura College women's soccer team opened the 2021 season with Sunday Night Futbol at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. Trailing 2-1 at halftime, the Pirates scores twice in the final 45 to post a 3-2 victory over the Mounties. Alix Tirado scored two goals in the game and Senna Togneri netted the game-winner. Valerie Hernandez recorded a pair of assists for Ventura (1-0).
The Mounties took the early lead with a goal in the seventh minute. Ventura had an answer, however, when Tirado scored in the 29th minute, assisted by Hernandez. Mt. SAC then took a 2-1 advantage into intermission with a score in the 41st minute.
Tirado wasted little time in the second half with the equalizer for the Pirates, scoring two minutes following the break from an assist by Ashley Tiscareno. VC found the back of the net on the game-winner by Togneri in the 69th minute on Hernandez's second assist opf the game.
Ventura had seven shots on goal offensively during the game while Aaliyah Lopez and Kambria Haughton split time in goal to anchor the Pirate defense, turning back a combined five shots by the Mounties.
VC makes its home debut on Thursday Sept. 2 in the New Balance Community College Showcase at the VC Sportsplex. The Pirates will host Golden West College at 8:00 pm in the final game of the first day of the showcase. Admission will be $5 and all tickets must be purchased online or by phone at https://ventura.vbotickets.com/events.
