The Pirate soccer team got back in the win column with a 1-0 victory at Oxnard College Friday afternoon. Paola Gonzalez netted the contest's lone score in the 52nd minute with an assist from Gabrielle Pido. Goalie Maya Escobar recorded four saves in goal in posting the shutout win.
The Pirates (8-9-2, 3-2) pressured the Condors early with numerous shots from Paulina Aldrete. Pida and Sirena Romero both had shots on goal as the first half ended, but VC went into intermission tied at 0-0.
Audrey Castillo had a corner kick at the beginning of the second half before Gonzales broke through with her goal. VC kept up the search for a second score with shots by Castillo, Aldrete and Miranda Vasquez, but they just could not punch through for the goal. Escobar was solid in the net to back up the Pirate defense in the victory.
