Audrey Castillo had two goals and an assist and Jasmin Ambriz scored twice as the Pirates' women's soccer team captured the program's 350th all-time victory with a 5-0 triumph over visiting Oxnard Tuesday night at the Sportsplex. Yadi Raigoza also scored and Paulina Aldrete had a pair of assists in the win for Ventura (4-6-4, 2-1). The Pirates dominated play over the Condors from the start, controlling the ball and recording 35 shots, 16 on goal, during the match.
VC claimed the early lead when Ambriz tapped in her first goal off of an assist by Aldrete in the 13th minute. Ambriz scored again in the 28th, taking a pass from Aldrete on the right side and shooting it past the OC goalie. The Pirates led 2-0 at halftime.
Castillo wasted little time in the second half, scoring from 20 yards out, unassisted, on a shot in the 46th minute that ricocheted off the Condor's goalie and into the net for the 3-0 VC edge. In the 53rd, Raigoza received a pass from Castillo 20 yards out from the goal on the right side and promptly rocketed a shot into the far back corner of the net for another score. Finally, Bailey Ingersol had a sweet cross in the 71st minute that was cashed in by Castillo for the final 5-0 margin.
Goalies Aracely Castro and Maya Escobar each recorded one save in the victory.
The win was also the 350th in the 23-year history of the program which began in 1996. Head coach Steve Hoffman has been at the helm since day one for the Pirates, recording all of the team's victories.
Ventura next travels to Moorpark to continue Rivalry Week aginst the Raiders with a 4:00 pm kickoff time.
