On the final day of their Bay Area trip, the Pirates' women's soccer team was a little off balance Saturday afternoon, falling at Hartnell College 3-0. The Ventura offense, which had scored eight goals in its first three games, was limited on its scoring chances by the Panthers in the midday contest. Kambria Haughton and Aaliyah Lopez combined for 10 saves for the Pirates in goal.
Hartnell's first goal came after the first half hour of play off a crossing free kick into a header. Their second goal was slotted shot into the right side of the net in the 41st minute for a 2-0 halftime lead. The Pirates yielded the Panthers' third score in the 59th minute on a high shot that hit the crossbar and bounced into the net.
The Pirates (4-1) return to action on Tuesday Sept. 14 at Rio Hondo College in Whittier before returning home on Friday Sept. 17. Tickets for the 6:30 pm Friday home game against Santa Monica are available online at https://ventura.vbotickets.com/events.
