The Ventura College women's soccer team cold not find any offensive rhythm Saturday afternoon, falling 3-0 to Clovis Community College in the final game of the Nike Soccer Community College Showcase. The Pirates managed 14 shots on the day with seven on goal in defeat.
The Crush, in just their second season of play for the new college, took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute and held the advantage to halftime. The Pirates had opportunities, and played a steady game in the first 45 minutes but could not find an equalizer.
In the second half, the heat may have taken a toll as Clovis punched through scores in the 51st and 53rd minutes to take control of the match.
Maya Escobar had two saves in goal for the Pirates (2-2).
VC will next travel to Livermore in the East Bay for a pair of matches Thursday and Friday, Sept. 7 and 8. They will play host Las Positas College on Thursday at 8:00 pm before taking on Santa Rosa on Friday at 6:00 pm. The Pirates follow that up with a home date against Rio Hondo on Friday Sept. 15.
