Playing host to cross-county rival Moorpark College, the Ventura College women's soccer team dropped a closely played match, 2-1 at the VC Sportsplex. Adrina Palacios netted the Pirates lone goal of the night. Goalkeeper Amy Neidiffer picked up three saves in the match.
Ventura looked to play spoiler when the Raiders entered the Ventura College Sportsplex sitting in first place in the Western State Conference North Division. After allowing an early goal in the third minute of play, VC' defense maintained the status quo throughout the remainder of the half, heading to intermission down 1-0.
The Pirates picked up their offensive pressure in the second half, and broke through when Palacios hit from 40 yards out in the 60th minute of play to even the score. Ventura continued to attack the Raiders end of the field looking for the tie-breaking goal. VC attempted 15 shots in the match with 10 of those shots coming on goal, but were unable to put a second one in the back of the net. In the 88th minute as the match came towards an end the Raiders pushed through for a 2-1 advantage and the eventual win.
Up next, VC will play a pair of road at Cuesta on Tuesday Nov. 3 in a 3:00 pm match, then on Friday Nov. 6 at Oxnard, also with a 3:00 pm kickoff.
