Finishing up day one of the Nike Soccer Community College Showcase, the Pirates' women's soccer team posted a solid 5-0 victory over visiting Hartnell College Thursday night at the VC Sportsplex. Bailey Ingersoll scored twice within a minute late in the first half while Paulina Aldrete scored a goal and handed out two assists for Ventura (2-1) in the victory.
The Pirates took control of the match early with strong possession attacking the Panthers' end of the pitch. Aldrete assisted a score by Miranda Vasquez in the 18th minute as Ventura jumped out to the early lead. In the 26th minute, Aldrete had a strong run down the middle of the field, outracing the Hartnell defenders and scoring and unassisted goal for a 2-0 advantage.
Ingersoll took over late in the half, scoring twice inside of a minute, first from a Maya Antunez helper, then with an assist by Aldrete. The Pirates led 4-0 at halftime.
In the second half, VC continued to dominate play, with Antunez putting the game away with a score in the 53rd minute with an assist by Sirena Romero.
Eva Mcmillan spend a majority of time in the net with a pair of saves while Maya Escobar made a relief appearance with a save.
Ventura concludes the Nike Showcase with a 3:00 pm match against Clovis Community College. Kickoff is slated for Saturday Sept. 2 at 3:00 pm at the VC Sportsplex.
