The VC women's soccer team concluded their annual Bay Area trip with a scoreless draw at West Valley College in Saratoga Sunday. Janessah Gonzalez posted her first shutout of the season in goal for Ventura (0-2-2) while the back line of Samantha Quinonez, Tanaya Moreno, Ava Hoeffliger and Alondra Sanchez all played well along the back line for the Pirates.
Ventura's Cristal Vargas had a shot in the fifth minute of the game and Quinonez's free kick in the 11th was blocked by the Vikings' defensive wall. Melanie Torres broke free for a close shot in the 14th minute, to no avail, and the teams battled to a scoreless first half.
The Pirates' best chance to score in the final 45 minutes came off the foot of Sofie Stock inside the 6-yard box, but could not find the inside of the net.
Ventura totaled 16 shots in the game, eight on goal, while West Valley had four shots, two on target.
The Pirates will next travel to Mt. San Antonio on Tuesday Sept. 9 before returning home on Friday Sept. 12 against El Camino on AYSO night.
