The Ventura College women's soccer team swept the top awards in the post-season All-Western State Conference awards voted on by conference coaches in November. Alix Tirado was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player and Ashley Tiscareno earned the Defensive MVP award. Meanwhile head coach Steve Hoffman was named the Coach of the Year after directing the Pirates to their 17th WSC crown in his 26-year tenure with the program. Additionally, VC received five more first-team ALL-WSC selections including Kambria Haughton, Sasha Franco, Valerie Hernandez, Tiffany Hernandez and Jennifer Ramirez.
Tirado, a Moorpark High School product, had one of the best individual seasons in program history. She scored 27 goals, which is fourth in school history for a single season, and handed out seven assists for a total of 61 points, which also places her fourth in the program records.
Tiscareno, a Channel Islands High School grad, anchored a Pirate defense that yielded just eight goals in 12 conference matches, and 23 goals in 23 games overall. She netted a pair of goals with two assists when venturing out from her defensive position.
Haughton (Ventura HS), a team captain, played in goal for the Pirates giving up four goals in eight conference games with four shutouts. Franco (Oxnard HS), played in the midfield for VC and wore the captain's armband. She had one goal and a pair of assists while playing mostly on the defensive end of the field. Valerie Hernandez (Fillmore HS) also played a strong midfield with two goals and 12 assists while Tiffany Hernandez (Ventura HS) scored three goals with four assists from her midfield spot. Forward Jennifer Ramirez (Buena HS) scored eight goals with four helpers on the year to earn her first-team honor.
Hoffman earned his 10th WSC Coach of the Year Award. He is the only coach in program history and led VC to it's 17th conference title in 2021. VC also played its 550th game in program history, a 3-1 win over Santa Barbara on September 28, and the team's 250th conference triumph, a 4-0 victory over Allan Hancock on Oct. 29.
The Pirates also had four players selected second-team All-WSC, including Maggie Mordecai (Oxnard HS), Sofia Preciado (Oxnard HS), Justice Jones (Camarillo), and Stephany Ramirez (Frontier HS).
Annette Castrejon (Oxnard HS) and Julie Marcelo (Oxnard HS) earned Honorable Mention All-WSC distinction.
The Pirates finished the season in the second round of the SoCal Regional Playoffs with a final record of 16-4-3 and a 9-1-2 mark in WSC play.
