VC soccer forward Janelle Garcia and head coach Steve Hoffman led the list of Pirates honored in All-Western State Conference voting by conference coaches last month. Janelle, who led the circuit with 18 goals in 10 conference games and 30 scores overall, was named the WSC North Division Most Valuable Player while Hoffman was named Coach of the Year for the seventh time for leading VC back to the top of the standings for the 16th time in 21 years.
Janelle becomes the 10th Pirate to win the conference MVP award, and the first since current assistant coach Daisy Cardona won the award in 2012.
Meanwhile, five other Pirate sophomores joined Janelle on the first-team All-WSC list. They included midfielders Jennifer Orozco, Megan Henderson and Sarah Garcia and defenders Melissa Cardenas and Sydney Kruft.
Ventura had four players names second-team All-WSC. Sophomores Michelle Rios (forward), Josselyne Pereda (midfield) and Rae Ritchie (defender) all earned the honor along with freshman forward Valeria Ramirez.
Sophomore forward Hannah Greene and sophomor goalie Evanessa Vasquez earned honorable mention all-conference nods.
