Alisha Greenlaw, Women's Track & Field, Week of May 9-15, 2016May 16, 2016Alisha Greenlaw already had a record-setting resume heading into the SoCal Championships Saturday at Antelope Valley College. The sophomore from Rio Mesa High School added to it, leading the Pirates' track and field team to its best regional finish in over a decade.

Austin Hammond, Men's Swimming, Week of May 2-8, 2016May 09, 2016The Ventura College men's swim team finished in the Top-10 in the state for at least the 16th consecutive year on Saturday. Leading the way was sophomore Austin Hammond whose seventh place finish in the 200 yard butterfly was the best individual finish for the weekend for VC.

But before the season comes to a close, the program will have its first participants in the CCCAA State Individual Championships.

Delani Clark, Women's Swimming, Week of Apr. 18-24, 2016April 25, 2016The VC women's swim team had a strong second place finish this weekend a the three-day Western State Conference Championships. Helping lead the charge was Delani Clark.

Hironori Koyanagi, Men's Tennis, Week of Apr. 11-17, 2016April 18, 2016Very seldom does a generational player come around. Hironori Koyanagi is making a case for himself as one of, if not the best men's tennis player ever at Ventrua College. He added to his resume last weekend by pulling off the back-to-back double dip at the Western State Conference Championships.

Nick Bublitz, Pirate Golf, Week of Apr. 4-10, 2016April 11, 2016It's Master's weekend, and a great time to bring up the Pirate golf team, which is quietly having a strong season. VC has consistently been in the Top-2 in the conference as a team all year, and this past week, Freshman Nick Bublitz was the individual medalist at the WSC event hosted by Allan Hancock College.

Kierra Joyner & Braxton Jessie, Beach Volleyball, Week of Mar. 28-Apr. 3, 2016April 04, 2016It is sometimes said that improvement is the real sign of success. For Beach Volleyball duo Kierra Joyner and Braxton Jessie, that could hold true. The pair won two big matches this week to help cement the Pirates second place standing in the Western State Conference.

Tristan Griffith, Men's Track & Field, Weeks of Mar. 14-27, 2016March 27, 2016Tristan Griffith of the Pirates' men's track team has had a solid start to his 2016 season. The freshman from Camarillo High School won the 400m at the Antelope Valley College Invitational on March 11 with a time of 48.22, which is the best mark of the season in the Western State Conference.

Ray Lambert, Pirate Baseball, Week of Mar. 7-13, 2016March 14, 2016The No. 15-ranked Pirate baseball team is quietly putting together a solid season. One reason is the starting pitching provided by Ray Lambert. The sophomore from Thousand Oaks High School was outstanding in his 4-hit complete game shutout of No. 11 Cuesta on Thursday.

Mariko Sagara, Women's Tennis, Week of Feb. 29-Mar. 6, 2016March 07, 2016Mariko Sagara has been outstanding for the women's tennis team this spring. The freshman from Nogoya, Japan is 9-1 in her No. 1 singles matches, and has posted a record of 7-1 in No. 1 doubles with partner Jessica Powell.

Aubri Smith, Women's Basketball, Week of Feb. 22-28, 2016February 29, 2016Although the Pirates' women's basketball team fell to defeat in the playoffs Saturday, they did not go down without a fight. Leading the way for VC was Aubri Smith with 18 points and five assists.

Tiara Litonjua, Women's Track & Fieldl, Week of Feb. 15-21, 2016February 22, 2016Freshman Tiara Litonjua ran the 400m hurdles for the first time Friday at the Western State Conference Relays at the VC SPortsplex. Not only did she win the race, but she also turned in the No. 6 all-time mark in school history.

Julianne Abeloe, Pirate Softball, Week of Feb. 8-14, 2016February 15, 2016The Pirate softball team had an outstanding week, posting a 5-0 record, including a four-game sweep at the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament. Freshman outfielder Julianne Abeloe is a big reason behind VC's early season success.

Corey Karen, Men's Tennis, Week of Feb. 1-7, 2016February 08, 2016Men's tennis standout Corey Karen got the 2016 season off to a smashing start. He was undefeated in two singles matches and two doubles matches, leading VC to a pair of season-opening victories at Riverside and Grossmont.

Brison Cronenbold, Pirate Baseball, Week of Jan. 25-31, 2016February 01, 2016The Ventura College baseball team opened up the 2016 season this week, and shortstop Brison Cronenbold opened up on fire. The sophomore from Thousand Oaks High School batted .750 in three games, hitting 6-8 with a triple and a pair of walks. He scored four runs for the Pirates in three games.

Trevor LaCount, Men's Basketball, Week of Jan. 18-24, 2016January 25, 2016The Ventura College men's basketball team kept pace in the Western State Conference race with a come-from-behind win Saturday, their third victory in a row. Freshman forward trevor LaCount had an outstanding effort with 22 points to help pace VC.

Steven Bush, Men's Basketball, Week of Jan. 11-17, 2016January 18, 2016The VC men's basketball team came storming back into the Western State Conference North Division race with a pair of big victories this week against Los Angeles Pierce and Allan Hancock. Guard Steven Bush found a hot shooting touch to help make that happen.

Makenna Murray, Women's Basketball, Week of Dec. 7-13, 2015December 14, 2015VC sophomore Makenna Murray has started every game of her Pirate career, but played a new position this weekend in place of an injured teammate. She did not miss a beat, leading the Pirates to the Buddy's All Star LAVC Classic tournament title at LA Valley College.

Elijah Brown, Men's Basketball, Week of Nov. 30-Dec. 6, 2015December 07, 2015Pirate sophomore Elijah Brown has come into his own this season for the VC men's basketball team. Last week, he demonstrated the player he has become with his strong play at the Antelope Valley Tournament.

Carolyn Ruffino, Women's Basketball, Week of Nov. 23-29, 2015November 30, 2015It was an all-time performance for Carolyn Ruffino. The sophomore guard hit seven of eight 3-point attempts Saturday in VC's 92-49 win over Santa Monica, tied for the fourth-highest single-game 3-point total in program history.

Chris Beeson, Pirate Football, Week of Nov. 9-15, 2015November 16, 2015With its fourth win in a row Saturday night, 37-28 over Bakersfield, the Pirate football team secured a share of its second straight Northern Conference title. VC running back Chris Beeson led the way with a career night of 28 carries for 210 yards and three touchdowns.

Megan Henderson, Pirate Soccer, Week of Nov. 2-8, 2015November 09, 2015The Pirate soccer team produced a pair of victories in the past week thanks to the efforts of midfielder Megan Henderson. The freshman from Royal High School in Simi Valley netted five goals in the two matches, a 3-0 win at Cuesta and a 4-1 win at Oxnard.

Brittney Mukhar, Pirate Volleyball, Week of Oct. 26-Nov. 1, 2015November 02, 2015The Pirate volleyball team has been a fixture in the state nd regional polls this season, in large part behind the outstanding play of sophomore Brittney Mukhar. She continued her strong season last week leading VC to a pair of conference wins.

Paige Treloar-Ballard, Women's Water Polo, Week of Oct. 19-15, 2015October 26, 2015Paige Treloar-Ballard has been a spark for the Pirates' women's water polo team all season. Her 82 goals and 60 steals on the season leads the Western State Conference as the season winds towards its conclusion.

Britto Tutt, Pirate Football, Week of Oct. 12-18, 2015October 19, 2015The Pirate football team ran away from Pasadena City College 62-31 Saturday night on the strength of a 38-point second quarter. Defensive back Britto Tutt was in the middle of that scoring barrage with a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Jennifer Orozco, Pirate Soccer, Week of Oct. 5-11, 2015October 12, 2015The Pirate soccer team broke out of a frustrating stretch with a 5-0 blow-out victory over Cuesta Friday afternoon. Jennifer Orozco led the way with two goals and two assists in the match.

Ty Gangi, Pirate Football, Week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4, 2015October 04, 2015What a game for a first start. Pirate quarterback Ty Gangi made his first start in the orange and black Saturday in the Citrus Cup game at Moorpark. All he did was set a new school single-game record for yards passing in VC's 60-36 win over the Raiders.
