The Pirates' women's tennis team hosted Orange Coast Friday, falling 9-0 to the Pirates from the south. Bella Moga, Alexis Schmidt and Beryllyn Paz all had a solid performances in singles play for Ventura (6-8, 4-6).
VC fell behind early as the defending Southern California champions won all three doubles matches by identical 8-1 margins.
In singles play, Ventura made a run with some solid play. Schmidt dropped her No. 1 singles match in a second-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) while Moga went to a tiebreaker in the first set in her 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 defeat. Paz fell in the no. 6 slot 6-2, 6-3 and Nicole Iannacone dropped her contest in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
The Pirates next travel to Bakersfield for a Western State Conference match on Tuesday March 19.
