The Ventura College women's water polo team won one and lost one Saturday on the final day of the Orange Coast Tournament in Costa Mesa. The Pirates defeated Fullerton 10-6 before falling to the tourney hosts 10-5 in the finale. Kendal Santos scored four times in the two games with two assists, five steals and three drawn ejections to lead VC (3-2).
Ventura 10, Fullerton 6
VC opened up a 4-1 lead after one quarter on goals by Emily Baughn, AnnMarie Patterson, Kelsee Espitia and Gabrielle MacNeill. Espitia, Baughn and Santos scored consecutive goals to stretch the Pirate advantage midway through the second period and Ventura led 7-3 at halftime.
Espitia netted three scores in the game while Santos and Baughn each scored two. Santos also contributed two assists and a steal and Baughn dished out one dime with two steals and a drawn ejection. Ahna Davis turned back 13 Hornet shots and Paige LeBaron had five saves in the cage.
Ventura 5, Orange Coast 10
The host team pulled away early from Ventura as the Pirates were limited to one Santos goal in the first half. She finished with two scores, four steals and three drawn ejections in the game while Izabel Magana recorded a pair of goals with two steals. Baughn score once with three drawn ejections and two steals and Davis had five saves in two quarters of play.
Ventura next travels to San Diego Sept. 16 and 17 to play twice at the San Diego Miramar Mini on Friday before playing two games at the Southwestern Mini in Chula Vista on Saturday.
