The Pirates' volleyball team got back on track Wednesday with a sweeping victory at Los Angeles Pierce in Woodland hills, 14, 11 and 14. Ventura hit 16 service aces in the match, led by Jocelyn Montoya's seven unreturned serves. Talia Behrens led the offense with eight kills while hitting .583 and Kylie Ibbotson had seven winners, hitting .538. Ashley Johnson handed out 10 assists and Autumn Rojelio had 10 digs defensively.
VC (15-3, 5-2) had eight kills, four aces and two blocks in the opening set in defeating the Brahmas 25-14.
The Pirates increased their offensive output in the second with 16 winners in the 25-11 triumph.
Finally, Ventura was virtually unhittable in the third set as they recorded seven aces, 12 kills and a block in clinching the victory.
Kayla Murdoch recorded six kills with a .417 hitting percentage in the match as the Pirates hit .313 as a team. Murdoch also had eight digs defensively while Johnson added five service aces to her assist total.
Ventura, who still remains in the hunt for their third straight Western State Conference title after Santa Barbara defeated in five sets Moorpark Wednesday, will next host Cuesta on Friday Oct. 27 at 6;00 pm.
