The No. 15-ranked Pirate baseball team is quietly putting together a solid season. One reason is the starting pitching provided by Ray Lambert. The sophomore from Thousand Oaks High School was outstanding in his 4-hit complete game shutout of No. 11 Cuesta on Thursday. Against the Cougars he scattered four singles, not allowing a base runner past second base after the fourth inning. He struckout 13 batters with no walks, propelling VC to first place in the Western State Conference standings. On the season, Lambert is 4-2 with quality starts in his past five outings. He is this week's VC Pirate Student Athlete of the Week proudly sponsored by Snapper Jack's Taco Shack.
