Pirate sophomore AJ Ryland had a career day Monday, posting a 7-under 65 to run away with medalist honors at the Western State Conference No. 6 event at Antelope Valley Country Club in Palmdale. The Pirates had another solid day as a team with a collective score of 377, finishing fourth in the eight-team WSC field. Logan Gonzalez tied for 11th carding a 2-over 74.
Ryland posted what is quite possibly the best score in program history. His 7-under mark was four strokes ahead of second place and seven strokes ahead of fourth.
VC trailed conference leading Canyons at 36, followed by Glendale and Bakersfield at 370 and 373, respectively.
Behind Ryland and Gonzalez, Ventura scores included Ian Chapital at 76, Brandon Flores with a 79, Hunter McCoy posting an 83 and John Burns with an 87.
The Pirates will make up WSC No. 2 at Alisal Ranch Golf Course in Solvang on Monday April 8.
